Movement disorders are diseases of the nervous system which are charachterized by abnormal movements AND/OR paucity of movements. There are many types of movement disorders which are common and some other are rare. Parkinson’s disease, Progressive supranuclear palsy, tremors,chorea, writers cramp, and dystonias are some of the varieties of movement disorders . These disorders are unusual and there is lack of awareness about the diseases in the general population. The diagnosis of these problems requires an expert in the field, apart from a dedicated team to take care of these patients. Facilities

The centre is equipped with sophisticated investigative tools like the TRODAT SPECT and PET SCAN brain for confirmation of the diagnosis of some specific diseases. For routine imaging there is availability of 256 slice CT scanner and a 3 T MRI system. The operation theatre is equipped with a stateof the art Neuronavigation system and a microelectrode recorder for DBS surgery In DBS brain the accuracy of the leads can be determined with the help of the state of the art O Arm System

Procedures

Botox injections are given regularly at our centre for problems like Spasmodic torticollis, Writer’s cramp, blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, spasmodic torticollis and spasticity. There is facility for EMG and ultrasound guided injections for botox at our centre. The Institute runs a special clinic for Movement disorders and Parkinsons disease. For the management of Parkinson’s disease and some generalized dystonia, DEEP BRAIN STIMULATION surgery is done by the functional neurosurgeons in close collaboration with the neurophysicians. The team of this speciality is also proficient in the Post DBS Programming of patients who have has deep brain stimulation surgery done. Facility for baclofen pump implantation is also available with us for management of severe lower limb spasticity.The centre offers a state of the art facility for physiotherapy and rehabilitation for patients with all types of movement disorders
